Laiyang is located in the middle of Shandong Peninsula, bordering Haiyang on the east, Laixi on the west, Qixia and Zhaoyuan on the north and Jimo on the south.

In the middle of Shandong Peninsula, Laiyang lies in middle of Lanyan railway (from Lancun  to Yantai) It borders Haiyang on the east, Laixi on the west, Qixia and Zhaoyuan on the north and Jimo on the south. It is 35 kilometers from west to east and 65 kilometers from south to north. The land area of whole city totals 1731.54 square meters. The coastline is 27.5 kilometers in curve. The city zone is located in the middle by north.

The terrain is high in the north and low in the south, so the most of the rivers in Laiyang originate from the north and run to the south. There are 13 rivers which run 15 kilometers. 

Laiyang is in the north temperate East Asia monsoon zone. The climate features abundant sunlight and four seasons with spring windy and dry, summer rainy and hot, autumn warm during the day and cool during the night and winter cold and dry. The annual precipitation averages 800 mm, the temperature 11.2 degrees centigrade, relative humidness 73%, sunlight 2,996 hours, wind speed 2.7 meters/second and frost free period 173 days. The land of the whole city totals 1,731.54 square kilometers, among which 1271 square kilometers is for agricultural use and 256 square kilometers for construction use. The unused land numbers 250 square kilometers. 

The rich mineral resources are widely distributed in Laiyang, with the majorities going to nonmetallic minerals such as graphite, phosphorus, marble, limestone, potassium feldspar and zeolite. Among the minerals, the reserve of potassium feldspar hits 730,000 tons with some 14% potassium oxide and 0.07% iron.

The annual water resources for the whole city totals 370,900,000 cubic meters with 295,100,000 cubic meters useable. The per capita amount reaches 328 cubic meters. For the 161,900,000 cubic meters of ground water, 130,200,000 cubic meters can been exploited.
