Laiyang Pear Flowers
Due to its large number of pear trees, Laiyang city has been refered to as the "City of pears". Pear orchards are mainly located near Wulong River and its branches--Xian River, Qingshui River and Fushui River. Five kilometers away from the city proper, a cliff named after its red earth, stands in front of Qingshui River with Xian River on the right. The boundless pear orchards where the two rivers converge make for a very picturesque setting.
Every May, when pear trees come into bloom, the snow-white flowers present themselves against the cliff, making it seem as if snow has been pile on red rocks. Zhao Feisheng, a scholar of the Qing Dynasty, even wrote a poem describing the beautiful scenery of the city. During the pear blossom season lots of tourists come to visit and enjoy the unique view.
