In 2003, Laiyang enjoyed a remarkable economic increase, entering the list of Top 30 counties in Shandong Province and the Top 100 counties with competitive economy in China. Statistics show that the whole city finished gross domestic product of 10.459 billion yuan, with an increase of 14.8% over 2002. The proportion of agriculture, industry and services stands as 16.9:49.4:33.7. Agriculture realized an added value of 1.772 billion yuan, industry 5.169 billion and the service industry 3.518 billion, with increase of 3.42%, 17.73% and 16.62% respectively. The local financial revenue reached 377,580,000 yuan, with a gain of 18.58%. The foreign capital in signed contracts hit 325 million yuan, the actually used foreign capital 192 million and the export brought foreign exchange of 247 billion yuan, increased by 106.7%、71.12% and 20.56% respectively. The 175 enterprises above scale finished sales income of 13.11 billion yuan and taxes of 1.13 billion yuan. With regards to agriculture, the net income per farmer was 3,876 yuan with an increase of 273 yuan. The contribution of technologies to economic development hit 54% and the unemployment rate was controlled at 0.7%. The natural increase rate of population was controlled at -1.82‰.
